Final Reflection
Source: blog.tcea.orgMy Views on Ed Tech:
My views on educational technology have always been positive. I still feel that educational technology is very important and definitely the new trend in education. Our current students learn differently than students in the past as technology is a major part of their lives. Almost every student has a smartphone and a one-on-one technology device, 10 years ago this was definitely not the case. It is important that educators adjust to our students learning styles as technology is here and its here to stay. Incorporating technology over time can make a teachers job easier, done are the days of grading 150 math homework assignments. Now students can use self grading platforms where teachers can review reports to view progress. My classroom looks much different that it did five years go. I use platforms such as MATHia by Carnigie Learning, Khanacademy, Formative, and most recently Boomcards. All these platforms has made my job easier of course once the students are properly trained on their use. I'll also be incorporating tools such as Nearpod and Flipgrid into my class. Everyday I have the students do a quick little self-evaluation on the lesson of the day. I ask how the lesson went for them and how comfortable they feel about the new content they learned. Moving forward rather than having them write it out every time, I will be using Flipgrid as an option to present their self-evaluation. Nearpod looks great to use for some self-guided notes and independent practice.
A specific topic that stood out to me was the Active Learning assignment. I really enjoyed the active learning we participated in, this had us not just read about tech tools but use them. I will be incorporating more active learning in my class coupled in with more use of tech tools. Next year I will be borrowing the assignment where students represented their school expectations using pictures with tech tools.
I will leave you with this gif to describe my overall experience and how I feel about educational technology at this time.
