Hi all. My name is Joe Waski, I look forward to learning about social media with everyone while taking this course.
This is my 17 year teaching. I have certifications to teach high school math with an LBS1 and an ELL endorsement. I'm contemplating going for a Technology Specialist endorsement as well.
Here is some professional information about myself. I spent my first year substitute teaching at District 207 this is where I made networks that lead to my first job working for one of alternative schools that served the district. My first full time teaching job was at North Cook Young Adult Academy in Palatine. NCYAA had a total of 3 campus and was classified as a Regional Safe School Program that served at risk youth outplaced by their homeschools for behavior infractions. I worked at NCYAA for 5 years, unfortunately the campus I worked at ended up closing due to budget cuts which led to my second job at Joseph Academy an alternative school that serves special education students with severe learning, emotional, and behavior disabilities. All students at Joseph Academy were outplaced due to behavioral infractions at their homeschools. I worked at Joseph Academy for 7 years. After feeling a need for job and financial security I found a teaching position at Morton East High School in Cicero. I currently teach a sophomore self-contained LDI Integrated 2 math class. All students I work with at Morton East have been identified as learning disabled in the area of mathematics. Some students have been identified as having an emotional disability, most have been identified as English Language Learners. I'm currently in my fifth year at East and I am very happy at this school.
Here is some information about my personal life. My wife and I have been married for 9 years we have a beautiful 6 year old daughter. We enjoy spending time together going to parks and spending time in our back yard. I enjoy cooking and many outdoor events. We also enjoy traveling to the Northwoods in Wisconsin for family vacations.
Hi Joseph,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! Wow, your career really astonishes! I am sure that spending many years with students, who need you most ( even though sometimes they may not realize it), made you a valued educator! I am only at the beginning of my path, but stories like yours inspire. It will definitely be following your blog to get your perspective!
From your profile picture I can definitely say that family plays an important part in your life. I also often times have my family picture as my profile picture at the social media platforms. Just recently changed one to the photo, where I am alone! BTW, your daughter looks like you a lot!
Hi Joe,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to connect with another educator. I work on the Southside as well. You have an impressed number of certifications.
From your profile picture I can tell that you are a family oriented person who enjoys spending time with loved ones.
I look forward to taking this course with you.
Hi Joe,
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you. I actually went to Morton West my freshman and sophomore years of high school. I love that you have the passion and patience to work with students that have unique needs. It takes a lot of dedication. I too have been teaching for many years and truly can say I love my job, and my students. It was difficult for me to leave my last teaching position and venture into public school, for the same reason as you, "financial security". Listening to how happy you are gives me hope that I made the right decision changing schools. I work with EL students and just earned my endorsement, and like you are now elevating with the technology endorsement.
My family and I also love our backyard. We have a third acre lot and although it is a lot of work, it is the place were we spend the majority of our time with friends and family. My husband is the gardener in our house, I tend to kill everything so I am on "pulling weeds" duty!
