Data Analysis

source: Jaeylns School Site

For this data analysis I choose to analyze my last 25 posts on my Facebook account.  I typically use my Facebook account for personal use.  Before looking back at my last 25 posts I chose to do a self-reflection on what I expect to see.  I expect to see a lot of posts about my family, family adventures such as vacations or going out to eat, and food.  I expect to see an overall positive tone.  I try to keep my Facebook account clean and free of drama.

Below is a data analysis of my last 25 posts on Facebook.  This data analysis was eye opening as I thought I projected a different tone on Facebook.  Yes, I do have food and family posts while I do stay away from drama.  However, I was surprised how many political posts I made, how many jokes I made, and my use of humor.  My overall tone was positive but with a bit of complaining.  The jokes about Friday and work make it seem like I'm burned out, however that is far from reality.  I like my job and am still pretty energized for the end of the school year.  I did post about some dishes that I cooked however I though I posted way more about food than I saw.  There were also some random posts such as the post about the funny bone, not sure what I was thinking in that moment.  I did notice but did not document below that my Facebook page mostly consists of my wife's posts.  She is very active on Facebook and tags me a lot which shows up on my page.  All her posts were good natured, positive, and family orientated.  Only my posts were the ones that could be looked at as controversial such as the political posts and the Will Smith/Chris Rock joke.  All my posts were made with good intentions and not to cause drama, however after this data analysis I can see some people may take some of the posts out of context or have an negative reaction especially the political posts.

My take away from this data analysis, beware of what you post!  If you do not know me personally and took a look at my Facebook page, you may view me as a different person as I really am.  This being said, I am leaving a digital footprint of myself by posting to Facebook.  Even if I delete posts they are permanently recorded in Facebooks data base.  In future posts I will be more aware of the humor and political posts that can be taken the wrong way.   Below is a picture collage of some of the posts listed above.

  1. This is a great reflection, Joe. It's so powerful when we *think* we are portraying ourselves one way and then we see the reality of what we posted isn't what we thought it was!
